The Ecuadorian Minister of Tourism, Freddy Ehlers, and the Secretary General of Domestic Trade and Tourism of Spain, Joan Mesquida, held Wednesday in Madrid a working meeting, during which they agreed to boost cooperation between the two countries in tourism.
Minister Ehlers, who arrived on Monday to Spain to participate in XIV Ibero-American Conference of Tourism Ministers and Businessmen (CIMET) and the International Tourism Fair FITUR 2011, opened yesterday in Madrid, expressed Ecuadorian Government's interest to push the agreement concluded on December 7, 1994 in Quito, which was welcomed by its English partner.
Freddy Ehlers, who e stûv accompanied at the meeting by the ambassador of Ecuador in Spain, Galo Chiriboga Zambrano, recalled that the said Convention provides, inter alia, mutual support cooperation between tourism sectors of both countries, both government and business, as well as the desire to promote the exchange of business missions to assess the business opportunity and the possibility of investment in tourism.
The two sides agreed to meet soon to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation, inter alia, include: certification of quality tourism, tourist exchange rules, loyalty (program host), technical assistance in the field of tourism statistics. To this end, we agreed, in principle, the shift to Ecuador English technicians of the Institute of Tourism Studies and the Ministry of Tourism, to carry out training days.
On Thursday, the minister Ehlers held at the headquarters of the Embassy Ecuador a meeting with the director for Europe, LAN, Francisco Vidal, who agreed to coordinate promotional activities in Ecuador that covers the airline's destinations. He later received several operators, and gave interviews to media representatives and international Ecuadorian and finally met with the Secretary General of World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Talef Rifai.
